A Website for Beginning Online Learners

What You Need

 

It is essential that you have the following equipment and software before enrolling in an online course.  


You need to have....

A computer running at least Windows 95 
   
Access to the Internet using either: 
                Netscape 4.5 or higher    or
                Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
At least 40-50 Mb of disk or hard drive space
An email address (with attachment ability)
Word processing software (such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, etc)

It is recommended that you have the following items.  They are helpful for certain aspects of a course.

You should have...

A printer to print syllabus, articles, assignments, etc
Adobe Acrobat (Click here to download the free reader.)
Real Player for audio and video presentations (Click here to download free version)
Microsoft's PowerPoint (Some instructors use this for lectures or presentations)
Virus Protection Software such as McAfee or Norton's (These will catch and eliminate any deadly computer viruses that you may unintentionally pick up from email attachments and file downloads)

Now it is time to get some tips and recommendations for being a successful online student.
