I met Peter Lloyd online some years ago and edited papes and book chapters for him. He and I became close friends, although we never met face to face. Ruth, his wife, shared with me the sad news of his death from cancer in April 1998 - an unhappy way to meet someone so lovely.
Ruth and I spent a week together at her home in Barnet, North London in November 1998. The Ruth Quilt was my gift to her. Some of my friends, the members of the "Material Girls" an online quilting bee, sent me blocks, hearts and leaves. My daughter Krystal appliqued some of the blocks for me and learned how to applique in the process. A lot of love and caring went into its construction and by graciously accepting it, Ruth became a member of our family.
The quilt is queen size with dresden plates and hearts in fall colors. The designs are appliqued to muslin squares and sashed with terracotta cotton. It was quilted by machine "in the ditch" along the sashing and quilted by hand around the motifs.

On the frame at the house. See the leaves appliqued down the side
border?
The hearts are set so that either end to the head is "right"
No two blocks are alike
By the way - this is my first finished quilt of this kind (pieced and appliqued) and where I learned to machine quilt and machine applique
